I recently finished a painting I’ve been working on for a long time! This is Cherub #2. It’s about 3′ x 4′, which is really a bit too big to see well on the internet…make it as big as you can for best results.
I had to overcome a lot of creative terror to get this right. For one thing, I had no idea how it was really going to look until I was well into the process, so I procrastinated for a long time. I also had to get into splashy, one-shot one-kill watercolor stuff when I had already put hours into the drawing layer – but then I got to do the rainbows, which made up for it, and I’m really happy with how it all came together.
I also finished this small annunciation for my parents, who wanted to use it as a Christmas card. It was surprisingly tough to take on a
classic subject that way, trying to preserve the nature of the theme while doing it my own way, but I’m happy with how this came out, too – which, to be honest, is probably why you’re seeing it on the internet.
